6 August 2025 Scottish Government hosts In-Person Partnership Meetings
Discussions on the latest research taking place were held and we agreed the shape of our new website, including approving our new Blue Carbon Projects Directory. The website gives the partnership a visible online presence and provides the space to host the Directory which – with the help of academics, eNGOs and government bodies – will capture for the first time, ongoing and historic blue carbon research from across the UK. This in turn will help facilitate better alignment between organisations and improve our understanding of the evidence gaps.
We also used the opportunity of being in Scotland in person to host a special meeting of the working group working on building the evidence base to support inclusion of coastal wetlands in the UK Greenhouse Gas Inventory. Leading experts at the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology presented their review of emissions factor typologies. The working group also planned their priorities for the year ahead, setting out how they will work together to fill the gaps that prevent saltmarsh from being included in the Greenhouse Gas Inventory. This builds on our progress taking the necessary steps set out in the recently published Roadmap.
We thank the Scottish government for providing the space for us to come together face-to-face. The partnership will continue its work to improve co-ordination and collaboration across the UK.
